 Here's How It Works We'll kick off the fun-filled week on Sunday evening by getting acquainted and enjoying an ice cream social at the swimming pool. On Monday through Friday, morning sessions will give you opportunities to learn how computers, software, and communications support Bible translation. You will hear stories, see demonstrations, and lots more. Meanwhile, children from first through sixth grade will have a blast at Missionary Kid Safari, a summer program for kids on our campus. Preschoolers (age 3 months and older) can enjoy the Missionary Kid Station. Seventh graders and older teens through 15-years will stay busy with special activities also. Everyone older than 15 may attend the conference. For the afternoons, you have various options. On Tuesday afternoon, a special, guided tour will offer you an introduction to a variety of Bible translation projects in progress at JAARS. On Wednesday afternoon, we have planned a picnic at nearby Cane Creek Park for conference attendees and all on-site IT staff and their families. As we grill hamburgers and hot dogs, and enjoy other picnic dishes, you can chat with field-experienced missionaries. You can also go swimming and hiking, enjoy fishing, play miniature golf, visit the play area, and more. On other afternoons you can explore some of the many area attractions, or just kick back at the JAARS pool (included in your fee). So, What is There to Do in the Area? Lots! Meals For meals, you are on your own. You can cook in your fully furnished apartment with groceries you bring or buy locally. The nearest grocery stores and restaurants are 10 minutes away in Waxhaw, or 20 minutes away in Lancaster, South Carolina. Lunch options are available for purchase Monday–Friday in the JAARS dining room for up to $5.70. A full meal includes soup and side salad. Dessert and beverages cost extra. Housing Center housing consists of modern apartments, available at a cost of $35 per night for one or two adults, plus $6.50 per child, with a maximum of $50 per night. (A 6.75% NC tax applies, also). If you want to room with a specific person, or you are willing to share an apartment, please indicate that on the registration form. Housing prices are subject to change.An RV section with full hookups is also available on campus. If you wish to stay off-site in a hotel, the nearest facilities are in Lancaster, South Carolina (about 20 minutes away), or in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte (about 30 minutes away). It is important to request center housing on the registration form and to note your arrival and departure dates. Airport Shuttle JAARS operates an airport shuttle to and from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The total cost is $35 one way (for up to four family members). When two or more individuals are transported at the same time, the cost is $20 per person. You can request airport shuttle service on the registration form. Be sure to provide your full flight itinerary either with the registration or in an email. Housing and/or airport shuttle fees will be collected at the conference registration checkin. You may pay by cash, check, or credit card. Shuttle contact details will be sent before the conference. Car Rental Car rental is available at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Allow approximately one hour to drive to the JAARS Center, depending on Charlotte traffic conditions, plus time for baggage pickup and car rental. JAARS has a limited number of cars to rent at the center for $10 a day or 50¢ per mile, whichever is greater. Reservations can be made in advance. Please e-mail us if you are interested.
