Housing, Meals & More

JAARS housing includes beautiful, fully furnished single rooms, apartments, and houses. There’s even an RV park with full hookups available.

Housing is not included in the conference registration fee, but it is inexpensive and very convenient, just a 10 to 20 minute walk to the conference meeting space.

For rates and availability, please contact JAARS housing by email (click on mail icon) or call 704.843.6020. You may pay for housing while you are on campus. Please register by two weeks before the conference to ensure onsite housing.

You will have your own room, unless you are married. If you would like to share a multi-room apartment with a specific person, or you are willing to share with someone else attending the conference, please indicate this when you contact housing.

If you wish to stay in a hotel, the nearest facilities are in Lancaster, South Carolina (about 20 minutes away), in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte (about 30 minutes away) or in the Waverly area about 25 minutes away.

For weekend conferences (Spring and Fall), we will provide snacks, Friday dinner, and all three meals Saturday.

For Summer conferences, we will provide snacks, Friday lunch, and a cookout supper with IT staff and their families.

Lunch options are available for purchase Monday to Friday in the JAARS dining room. A combo meal deal, salad bar, bag lunch, and other options are available.

You may cook in your fully furnished apartment with groceries you bring or buy locally. The nearest grocery stores and restaurants are 10 minutes away in Waxhaw, or 20 minutes away in Lancaster, South Carolina.

Professionals: Are you working hard and doing well in your career, yet looking for more purpose and fulfillment? Many of our staff come from successful industry jobs, and bring their skills and experience to the work of Bible translation. Many areas of IT, software, and communications are speeding and supporting this work.

College students: The conference can help you determine where to focus your education. You will see new possibilities and areas to explore. Now is the time to ensure that your future on earth counts for eternity!

Spouses: We encourage you to attend!

♦ Understand the big picture, the importance of translating the Bible into heart languages, via presentations and the JAARS Center Tour.

♦ Get a taste of JAARS community and meet various staff during conference meals and breaks.

♦ Most of the talks will be very interesting to you, though some are more technical—and even those may help you understand more of what your spouse might do. In the past, several spouses brought books they never read because they were so engaged in the conference.

♦ A translator and other staff share personal stories, we interview a staff person or couple live from the field over Zoom, and have a panel of couples who are “interviewed” about family life on the field.

♦ The time helps you and your spouse be on the same page about why you might want to get involved. Often attendees wished their spouses came.

♦ Spouses think of important questions to ask about other areas.

♦ You will hear about work in your areas of skill and interest, and may meet staff in other departments, if we know about this ahead of time.

♦ The Spring pre-conference includes a very inspiring walk through exhibits, history, and media at the Billy Graham Library, showing how God has been at work.

♦ The Summer conference offers fun morning activities for your kids so you can focus on the conference sessions, then enjoy afternoons together as a family.

Children: The Summer conference is ideal for families: we offer various fun activities for children and students 3 months old through elementary school. Please contact us regarding plans for students in middle school through age 15. Interested students ages 16 and up can attend the conference with the adults.

The Spring and Fall conferences are for adults and students ages 16 and up. Please make arrangements for the care of your younger children so that other attendees can focus on the speakers. We would be happy to talk about your specific needs.

Online registration is simple and secure. If you prefer, we can take your information by phone. Call toll-free 877.313.0139 during business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.

JAARS housing fees will be collected by the housing office. You may pay by cash, check, or credit card.

The shuttle fees can be collected by the shuttle driver, or by the housing office.

Should you need to cancel, substitute another person, or transfer your registration to the next conference, we will be happy to help you. Please contact us as soon as you know about any changes. A refund will be given if requested no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to the start of the conference.

JAARS operates an airport shuttle to and from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The cost is $50 one way per person or family, or $25 per person sharing a trip. Please request airport shuttle service through the housing office.

The shuttle driver will need your full flight itinerary. Shuttle contact details will be sent before the conference.

Car rental is available at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Rates are competitive, since there are many companies. Allow approximately one hour to drive to the JAARS Center, depending on Charlotte traffic conditions, plus time for baggage pickup.

JAARS has several cars that may be rented at the center. Reservations may be made in advance. Please email us if you are interested.
